No matter your beliefs or upbringing, December tends to be a time of gift-giving. You could certainly argue about the commercialism of the holiday season, but looking past that, there is still something heart-warming about finding a gift that someone truly loves (even if you don’t expect anything in return).
In the past, we’ve talked about different gifts that you can get for your pets. Variety Pet Foods even provides a growing array of treats and delicious dinners for dogs and cats, all of which can be used to celebrate special occasions, or just be a way to tell your pet how much you love and appreciate them. However, let’s take a look at a few of the things our pets give to us–sometimes on a daily basis!
- Comfort – There’s a reason why furry, four-legged critters are being increasingly brought into schools, elder care centers, hospitals, and the like. There is something incredibly comforting about being able to pet or cuddle with a dog or cat. Just sitting beside a dog or having a cat in your lap can be mentally and emotionally soothing, even healing! And they give it all so freely.
- Thanks – Whenever you interact with your pet, whether it’s throwing the ball for your dog or rubbing your cat’s belly, do you notice how they’re thanking you? That dog wagging it’s tail and romping around might as well be yelling “Thanks!” at the top of its lungs. And when your cat is purring and nuzzling, that’s a way it can say thank you as well. You just have to look and listen for it.
- Acceptance – It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. Your pets constantly show that they love and accept you, no matter what. Dogs and cats don’t judge in the way that (unfortunately) humans can. Whoever you are, they know you’re someone worth caring for, and they want to respond by providing some care in return, however they can.
What are gifts your dog or cat give to you? Have you found ways to thank them in return for the endless giving spirit they demonstrate, not just during the holidays, but all year round?
