Winter activities for dogs – What are your favorites?

All across the country, pups and humans alike are dealing with frigid temperatures, ice, and snow! Winter is fully engaged, and for some, it seems like it might limit the amount of fun you can have outdoors.

Far from it! There are, in fact, countless activities pups and humans can enjoy together in a winter wonderland. Here are some easy options:

  • Sledding – Find a good hill, and make sure you have a sled big enough to hold both you and your dog. Then enjoy the ride all the way down!
  • Skijoring – Weird word, isn’t it? This little-known sports combines dog-sledding with cross-country skiing. A special harness attaches you to your pup, who then helps pull you through the snow on your skis. (Some crazy humans even do this with horses!)
  • Snowshoeing – Strap on a pair of snowshoes, find a nearby trail that isn’t too icy, and tromp away with your pup romping in the snow beside you. Hiking isn’t just a spring/summer activity, but it can be enjoyed all year long, so long as you have the right gear.

Those are just a few ideas to get you started. Perhaps you already have favorite things to do with your dog in the snow. We’d love to hear ideas from all our friends! ¬†Share them here, on Facebook, or on Twitter.
